[SONG REVIEW] Whole Thing (Extended) - Frank Casino, and a quick look at SA Hip Hop in 2017

Jumping into something new is not easy. Most hip-hop fans from the Illmatic Nas era didnt like the Soulja Boy era of rappers. The people from the Nas era were used to actual bars and attitude on song...not to say that Soulja era didnt...but very few of them couldn't help but autotune it, if not, the rise in internet accessing technology helped promote their music.

Frank Casino is that type of guy who seemed to have popped up out of nowhere for a lot of the people who listen to local hip hop. Autotune, yes...but his flow got attitude. He's that dude. Which brings us to the prediction...He's winning this year's SAHHA song of the year.

We could spend the whole article going on about how the the song has to be hip-hop (strictly) and possibly delve deeper into what the criteria is for the HIP HOP song of the year...but that would only cut out OKMalumKoolKat's Gqi. Cassper Nyovest's Tito Mboweni was just Nasty C's NDA with too much Ciroc, and Faith Nketsi in it (we still need an explanation about how she's Queen Twerk, she doesn't twerk in the video. I want my view). That video probably is where all his #FillUpFNB money is...

In essence, the real contenders here are Kwesta, and Da L.E.S and Frank.

Kwesta, Da King of African Rap, had all love birds crooning this song...but that's Kwesta, and he deserves his due applause. Our only issue with him winning is, it's from an album that has BEEEN out. Same album as Nomayini, Ngud, and Mayibabo to name a few, if he wins, it's a major stretch...besides, he released the album 20 February 2016 and he featured most of the other rappers nominated. How Sway?!

Da L.E.S...I'd be lying if I'd say that Lifestyle was bad...Bruno Mars 24K Magic inspired hotel music video, independent promotion...he deserves the props...but that was Gemini's song and we all know it. Beat was Gemini, hook was Gemini, feel was Gemini..unfortunately...Leslie, the people want THE WHOLE THING!
